People
who have had tight timelines in the past know that one
problem with temporary tattoos is the length of time
it takes to manufacture them. For most manufacturers,
the turnaround will often range between 3 and 5 weeks.
There are a few reasons for this, and to help explain,
here is a quick look at the printing process.
It's
important to know that your tattoos will not be printed
individually. They are grouped together with other
temporary tattoo orders in large press runs in order
to get the best possible pricing. Some printing companies
will not go to press unless they meet company-set
quantity minimums, and as such, are not able to make
extremely tight timelines unless you happen to call
at the exact right moment.
Once
the art is received, it is then processed. Your design
is laid out on a large sheet with the other tattoos
on that press run. Printing plates are then made,
and the sheet is printed numerous times in order to
create the quantities everyone is requesting.
After
the paper backings and the 4 printing colors (Cyan,
Yellow, Magenta and Black) are printed, the inks are
left to dry. The inks used in temporary tattoos are
a combination of vegetable dyes, and the big trade-off
for being 100% safe is that they take much much longer
to dry than any other types of commercial ink.
After
3-5 days drying time, the tattoo adhesive is printed
over top of the inks. They are then sealed with a
plastic cover, cut, packaged, and shipped out to you.
The
entire process takes between 5 and 7 days, not taking
into account any delays in drying time or artwork
hold-ups. As you can see, it's all about timing! That's
why we're so excited to be able to offer a press run
every week. To return to our main custom tattoo page,
